What Is a Policy Brief?
A policy brief is a short, focused publication that summarizes a specific policy issue, presents relevant research or data, and offers evidence-based policy options or recommendations. It is designed to inform and influence decision-makers, such as government officials, legislators, or organizational leaders, by making complex information clear, accessible, and actionable. While some briefs remain neutral and suggest different possibilities for courses of action, others advocate for particular solutions based on the evidence presented.
Submission Guidelines
Word Count: NAPF recommends a 1000-2000 word limit. This is to strike a balance between being concise enough to maintain a policymaker's attention and detailed enough to thoroughly explain an issue, support it with evidence, and present well-reasoned recommendations without overwhelming the reader.
Citation Style: APA or Chicago preferred
Required Structure:
Title
Executive Summary of
Critique of Current Policy
Policy Recommendations
Bibliography
Author Bio (max 4 sentences: name, professional/academic background, nationality, and policy areas of interest). Include a contact email or LinkedIn for readers to reach you.
Important:
All submissions must be the original work of the author. The use of Artificial Intelligence, plagiarism, or any unauthorized assistance is strictly prohibited. Submissions should adhere to a recognized academic format (Chicago or APA preferred), with proper citations and footnotes as needed. We welcome work from individuals of all backgrounds and on all topics; however, we reserve the right to decline publication based on quality concerns, evidence of plagiarism, or suspected use of AI.
